You launch a campaign, CPL looks great for the first week, then it creeps up every few days after. This is one of the most common complaints we hear — and it’s rarely random.
The Real Causes
- Audience saturation — the same people are seeing your ad repeatedly and tuning it out
- Creative fatigue — CTR drops as an ad ages, and Meta’s algorithm charges more to reach people once engagement declines
- Increased competition — more advertisers bidding for the same audience in your category or season
- Broad targeting drifting toward low-intent users as the algorithm exhausts your best-fit audience first
How to Fix It
- Check frequency in Ads Manager — above 3–4 in a short window is a red flag
- Refresh creative every 10–14 days, not when performance already tanks
- Layer in a lookalike audience from your best converters instead of relying only on broad targeting
- Exclude recent converters and engaged-but-not-converted users to stop wasting spend on the same pool
CPL creep is usually a signal the algorithm has exhausted your current setup — not that the channel stopped working.
